There are lots of odds and ends that we don’t know if we can recycle or, if so, how. This website How to Recycle Anything lists volumes of items to answer those questions. Some items are listed with a link to a website for more information.
A – Aerosol Cans
If you completely empty the contents and pull the plastic nozzle of the can, you can usually recycle this with other cans. It is important to empty the contents, however, as they can be combustible.
B – Backpacks
It’s interesting to know that the American Birding Association needs your recycled backpacks for their work in tracking neotropical birds. You can find out more at www.americanbirding.org
C – Crayons
Did you know there is a National Crayon Recycle Program which melts those old crayons into new ones? You don’t even have to peel the wrappers off. They prefer you leave them on. You can find out more at www.crazycrayon.com
J – Juice Bags
Those little bags are not recycleable. TerraCycle is a company that will accept juice pouches from Honest Kids, Capri Sun, and Kool-Aid and will donate money to the charity of your choice for each pouch donated. They even provide free shipping. They are then turn them into items that get sold in large retail stores. You can learn more about the program here > www.terracycle.net
T – Toothpaste Tubes
You can’t really clean these out so, fortunately, you don’t have to. The metal tubes can go in your metal recycling. The plastic ones cannot be recyled.
Z – Zippered Plastic Bags
These can be recycled with your regular plastic but you should cut off the zipper portion of the bag. It is made from a non-recycleable plastic.
