We have had our solar array installed for over a year now and our Peak Energy box nearly 18 months. This chart helps show the effect these upgrades have made to our utility bill. Our Peak Energy box went in June 2013 and our solar array September 2013. The results are startling. Of course, we can’t wait until we’re off-grid and just need to set aside some money for general maintenance and don’t need to worry about connection fees, monthly monitoring fees or extraneous taxes.
The savings from the solar array should smooth out over time. While January 2014 is higher than the previous year before all the upgrades, January 2014 was the coldest month since moving here in 2005! Our $130 bill pales in comparison with neighbors’ $300+ ones. And yes, April, May and June combined total less than $15! Our bill are low despite utility costs rising 60% this year. If our rates had remained constant the chart would be even more startling.
